Kids Corner

Prairie County Sheriff Rick Hickman says he has always been very involved in our communities' youth.

Hickman makes numerous trips to the schools in Prairie County each year to speak against drug abuse and other community concerns. For the younger kids he passes out candy and pencils, along with coloring books. The books focus on teaching children the importance of never talking to strangers and saying no to drugs.

Each year the kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes, as well as the Head Start centers in Des Arc visit the Prairie County Sheriff's Department. They are taken on a tour of the facility. They also view the dispatch center, front administrative offices and get to meet the sheriff, jailers and on-duty deputies. They are then able to ask the group any questions about anything they do on the job.

Hickman shows them the importance of calling 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.

If you would like to set up an tour or have sheriff Hickman visit your school contact the Prairie County Sheriffs Department by emailing rick.hickman@prairiecountysheriff.org, calling (870) 255-4137 or stopping by 200 Courtyard Square in Des Arc.
